Caleb & Ava

Two Prairie Grove High School students, Caleb Duncan and Ava McCoy, put their math skills to the test at the Regional Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) contest on Saturday, March 1, at the University of Arkansas. Competing against more than 300 students from schools across Northwest Arkansas—including Fayetteville, Bentonville, Bentonville West, and multiple Haas Hall campuses—these students showcased their problem-solving abilities on a challenging stage.

Caleb Duncan competed in the Calculus division, earning a spot in the top 25 in the region, while Ava McCoy represented Prairie Grove in Algebra II. Sponsored by Donna Mitchell, both students embraced the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a competitive setting, gaining valuable experience for future academic challenges like the ACT and AP exams.

This experience not only sharpened their mathematical skills but also provided insight into how to prepare for future competitions. Ava, who will have the chance to compete again, now has a clearer understanding of the contest’s demands, while both students can offer guidance to peers interested in participating in the future. Their dedication and success reflect the strong academic spirit at Prairie Grove High School!
