Safety & Security
The Prairie Grove School District is committed to providing a safe environment for students and staff. The district provides several safety and security measures, including phones in each classroom, a panic button app available to all staff, and a visitor management system. Yet, our most valuable school safety asset is our staff and students. Being observant, following safety protocols, reporting suspicious or concerning behavior, and being prepared cannot be over-emphasized.
Our district's safety team works closely with local emergency responders to ensure we are well-prepared for emergencies. Each school conducts multiple emergency drills throughout the year, including fire, tornado, and lockdown drills. We work closely with local law enforcement which conducts regular safety walkthrough assessments at each building.
PGSD - Pillars of Safety
Closed Doors - Keep all exterior building doors closed and locked. All classroom doors should be closed and locked when students are present.
Wear Badges - Staff members should wear ID badges at all times when inside school buildings.
Single Point of Entry - Utilize the building office as a single point of entry for visitors at each campus.
Visitor Management - Visitors must wear ID badges at all times when inside a building. Visitors should be checked in and out with district-provided visitor management software at each building office.
During an Emergency
First, know what to do before an emergency. Review our emergency procedures (a copy is posted in each classroom). If you have safety questions, contact the safety team at sroteam@pgtigers.org. Or, contact your building administrator, supervisor, or school resource officer.
Don't assume someone else has reported an emergency. Dial 9-1-1, or use CatapultEMS to immediately contact Prairie Grove police, fire, and EMS services.
Keep your mobile phone nearby but turn the ringer off. The district can send push notifications and status checks through the CatapultEMS app.
Avoid. Deny. Defend.
Call 911 when you are in a safe area. When law enforcement arrives, show your hands and follow commands.
Avoid - Starts with your state of mind.
Pay attention to your surroundings.
Have an exit plan.
Move away from the source of the threat as quickly as possible.
The more distance and barriers between you and the threat, the better.
Deny - When getting away is difficult or maybe even impossible.
Keep distance between you and the source.
Create barriers to prevent or slow down a threat from getting to you.
Turn the lights off and silence your phone.
Remain out of sight and quiet by hiding behind large objects.
Defend - Because you have the right to protect yourself.
If you cannot AVOID or DENY, be prepared to DEFEND yourself.
Be aggressive and committed to your actions.
Do not fight fairly. THIS IS ABOUT SURVIVAL.
